How to install the Pixel launcher on your Android device

Yesterday we shared a few leaked images of the Pixel launcher with you, but things got a bit more exciting overnight when LlabTooFeR shared the launcher on his site. The zip file (linked below) contains two separate APK files, one for Pixel Launch and the second for the Wallpaper Picker which is built into it. You can install the Pixel Launcher on its own, but it will crash if you decide to change wallpapers from within the launcher without the Wallpaper Picker installed.

We’ve installed the Pixel Launcher on our HTC 10 and HTC One A9 without any issues. While the launcher works flawlessly, we’d like to point out that it is still pre-production software. There’s nothing that really stands out in its layout and functionality, leading us to believe that Google has a few tricks in store for the Pixel Launcher which are not available in the leaked build. The built-in Wallpaper Picker is fairly interesting, allowing users to browse multiple wallpaper categories to find the perfect wallpaper to customize the launcher. If you’re not too picky, there’s an option which will allow the launcher to change the wallpaper to one from a specific category on a daily basis. From what we can tell, the wallpapers are being sources from Google+, similar to the backgrounds that Google displays on the Chromecast.

If you do install the Pixel Launcher on your phone, let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Do you think the Pixel Launcher is an upgrade over the Google Now launcher that’s currently available?
