New HTC ‘Marlin’ Nexus rumor reveals display, camera, battery and design details

We saw some new details regarding the HTC Sailfish last week, HTC Marlin is the Nexus phone that most people are really interested in. If the latest rumor is true, the HTC Marlin will be quite an interesting phone. Android Police has shared new details regarding the phone, giving us the most information yet regarding the upcoming Nexus smartphone.

For starters, the HTC Marlin is said to sport a 5.5-inch QHD (2560×1440) AMOLED display. It will also come with 4GB of RAM and the base model will be equipped with 32GB of storage. Since Nexus devices usually don’t have microSD card slots, a second version of the Marlin will be available with 128GB of internal storage. We’re not sure why Google would skip over the 64GB option, but the source is fairly confident that there will only be two storage options for the phone. The model number of the processor used inside the HTC Marlin is still unknown, but hit will be a quad-core chip built by Qualcomm. The phone will also sport a 12MP main camera, 8MP front-facing camera, 3450 mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.2, a bottom-mounted speaker and a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone.

We could speculate about which Snapdragon 82X processor will be used inside the phone, but it really don’t make a difference at this point. We know that Qualcomm is working on a few 82X variants which feature clock speeds that are slightly higher than the 820 used in the HTC 10 and other flagship devices, but the chips would still use the same architecture and GPU.

The thing we’re most disappointed in is the lack of front-facing speakers on the HTC Marlin. The Nexus 6P did have front-facing stereo speakers, but everyone knows that they are not as good as the BoomSound speakers that HTC uses on its flagship devices. We just hope that by leaving them out, HTC and Google can reduce the size of the phone and give the HTC Marlin a screen-to-body ratio that’s close to 80%.

Are you looking forward to the launch of the HTC Marlin Nexis smartphone? If you could port one feature form the HTC 10 to the Marlin, what would it be?
