HTC udpates Ice View app for HTC 10

HTC’s Ice View case is a refresher of the Dot View case that launched with the HTC M8. The first gen case and its app received lots of pleasant updates that furthered its usefulness and justification in our lives. When the HTC 10 launched along came with it a brand new flip case called the Ice View and since it’s introduction the case has received two updates in the Play store.

I guess the case gets it’s name, because it has a frosted look on the outside and its texture is somewhat reminiscent of something frosted. Instead of the 8-bit underlay like the Dot View case this one has a modern view with rounded clock and easy to read details with a beautiful font.

The Ice View app entered the Play store on the 12th of April and an update was pushed a day later with the following additions.

  • Launch camera by swiping down
  • See notification content by swiping up
  • Flashlight and voice recorder control

On April 26th, HTC threw in a minor update that applied a bug fix for some error that was found.

The Ice View case can offer a great deal of details without having to open the case and minimizes screen on time since only a few areas are illuminated.

What can the Ice View case do?

Ice View has a large, round clock on the upper half of the display and one of the outer rings ticks for the seconds per minute. Inside the clock rings are the time and date, but if you tap the date it will change to reveal your phone’s battery life.

The bottom half of the display shows the weather and any alerts that you have allowed the app to populate. In the app settings you can select Manage app notifications where you have the ability to limit apps or if desired, you can select every app downloaded on your phone to show notifications when the Ice View case is closed.

Here’s a complete list of features Ice View can display and control:

– View the time, date and weather
– Check the battery level by tapping on clock
– Receive or reject calls
– Redial recent calls with a swipe up
– Review notifications by swiping left or right
– Open the camera using the Motion Launch gesture of swiping down twice when the screen is off
– Snooze or dismiss alarms by swiping up or down
– Skip songs or pause playback
– Flashlight and voice recorder control

The HTC Dot View case was a big hit with the One M8 and One M9. Will the legacy live on with the HTC Ice View case and its refreshed look through a frosted cover?

  1. I really wish they would release a different theme for Ice View, I really don’t like the retro-look, I wont be buying the Ice View cover because of it.

      1. I really hope so, it is such a useful accessory. I loved my Dot View on my M8.
