The Lab is Valve’s ultimate HTC Vive demo

We’re seen dozens of VR demos for the HTC Vive from very talented developers, but Valve is now showing off The Lab which gives users nearly ten different VR experiences which show off the full potential of the HTC Vive. For now, The Lab is only being shown behind closed doors, but those who have tested the VR experience seem to be pretty impressed with what Valve has pulled together. The Lab is intended to be a free demo for the HTC Vive which will allow users to get familiar with the technology and its controls.

Within The Lab, users can access the different VR experiences by picking up different teleportation orbs and pulling them to your face with the Vive’s motion-tracking controllers. Once teleported to a VR experience, users to explore the various room-scale, locomotion and projectile physics which are unique to that particular demo. The various VR demos within The Lab allow you to explore a mountain side and play fetch with your robotic dog, slingshot robots from Portal through a massive warehouse, defend a tower from oncoming enemies as an archer and blast away enemies as you hold a spaceship in your hand.

To get a full account of what The Lab experience is like from someone who’s used it, we recommend checking out Jason Evangelho’s article on Forbes. We’re hoping that Valve will be sharing some video or at least a few pictures of the various demo VR experiences from The Lab.
