Android 6.1 to feature split screen support and app permissioning tweaks

Google is still rolling out the Android 6.0.1 update to its Nexus devices, but rumors are starting to circulate regarding next year’s Android 6.1 build. According to Android Geeks, Android 6.1 will be a fairly minor update which will include tweaks to the way the OS handles app permissioning and the addition of split-screen support. The update will still carry the Marshmallow name and is expected to be released in June of 2016. While most people couldn’t care less about permissioning changes, it’s certainly nice to hear that Google will finally be adding split screen support to Android. We’ve seen a lot of UI enhancements to Android over the past 18 months, but Google really hasn’t pushed out any real improvements which change the way Android works on tablet. The ability to view and interact with two side-by-side Android apps in a desktop-like environment would make Android tablets a lot more appealing for those who would traditionally opt for a cheap laptop.

Unfortunately, this new rumor is detrimental to some leaks that we’ve seen regarding the HTC Perfume (HTC’s 2016 flagship phone). Last week, @LlabTooFeR shared that the HTC Perfume would launch with Android 6.1. If both rumors are true, the HTC Perfume will not be hitting store shelves until June of 2016. We’re hoping that Android Geeks’ source is wrong about the release windows for Android 6.1 or that @LlabTooFeR somehow got his details mixed up.

Hopefully we’ll see some clarifying details regarding the launch windows of the HTC Perfume and Android 6.1. Would you be willing to wait until June to buy the HTC Perfume?
