Android app of the week: Starbucks

Android app of the week: Starbucks

The Starbucks app wasn’t made by HTC, but the beauty in and functionality with any Android device is that it can assist you with personal tasks and keeping track of important items like what’s in my favorite caffeinated beverage. The Starbucks app won’t help you with personal tasks, but it will give you all the details on your favorite drink and it’ll even let you pay for that drink with a little bar code on the screen when you check out.

I recently installed this app on my phone after I received a gift card for my birthday and I knew that I could load the card into the app. I chose to do this instead of bulking up my wallet with a card that has a limited use for me since I don’t visit Starbucks very often.

The Starbucks app is very handy to have when you need a caffeine fix.

I can use the app to find the Starbucks store closest to me, redeem gift cards and reload money into a personal account for use at checkout, earn rewards from the drinks I buy, and even place orders without standing in line (at participating stores). I like how clean the app looks and the animations on the Rewards page is pretty cool! The lid opens when a new star arrives and is dropped into the cup. All the stars dance around the inside of the cup when you tilt your phone.

Unless you frequently visit Starbucks the rewards program might seem a little steep to reach the free perks. Your first five recorded drinks will unlock the Green level which gets you free refills on tea, brewed and iced coffee while visiting a store. If you collect 30 stars within 12 months you qualify for Gold level, then the next 12 drinks you buy earns you a free cup of coffee or food. The best part of the rewards program for someone like me that doesn’t visit Starbucks on a regular basis is that you get a free drink for your birthday. You should sign up 30 days before your birthday to make sure they have time to apply the free drink reward.

Wanna know what my favorite drink at Starbucks is?

Starbucks app2

It’s the Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino! A little foo-foo, but I love just about anything pumpkin flavored and mix it in with caffeine or beer and I’m all in. What’s your favorite drink at Starbucks or any cafe? Do you have a favorite loyalty card/app? Let me know in the comments so I can review it in this column.

Have you tried the Kentucky Ale Pumpkin Barrel Ale?
$3.50 per beer, but the pumpkin pie spices and a 10% ABV made it pretty worthwhile for me. 😀

Thomas! Haven’t heard from you in a while. Thanks for the suggestion! I’m calling around to find a place that carries it.
