Four new HTC Desire phones heading to nine US service providers

Yes, the title is correct. HTC has just announced four new HTC Desire phones which will be making their way to nine US service providers over the next few months. While the HTC Desire Eye from late 2014 was pretty comparable to the HTC One M8, these new HTC Desire phones are geared toward the budget segment – offering decent specs at price points starting under $200.

At the bottom of the list is the HTC Desire Desire 520, featuring a 4.5-inch FWVGA display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 210, 8GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, microSD expansion slot (up to 2TB), 2,000 mAh battery with an 8 megapixel camera on the back and 2 megapixel front-facing camera.

One notch up you’ll find the HTC Desire 526. With a body which takes a few cues from the HTC One S, the Desire 526 comes equipped with a 4.7-inch qHD display, Snapdragon 210 processor, 8GB of internal storage (expandable to 2TB with a microSD card), 1.5 GB of RAM and the same 2,000 mAh battery, 8 megapixel main camera and 2 megapixel front-facing camera found on the Desire 520.

The HTC Desire 626 sits at the very top with a 5-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 210, 16GB of storage, microSD card slot (up to 2TB), 1.5GB of RAM, 2,000 mAh batter and 8 megapixel main camera. To further set the Desire 626 apart from the other phones, HTC has also included NFC and has bumped up the resolution of the from-facing camera to 5 megapixels. While it pains us to say it, the HTC Desire 626 has a half brother – the HTC Desire 626S. This pre-paid variant of the phone features dumbed-down spec sheet (1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and only a 2 megapixel front-facing camera) in an effort to keep the price down for budget-conscious consumers.

All four of the phones will be priced below $200 when they hit the market this summer and later this fall. The HTC Desire 520 will be heading exclusively to Cricket and the HTC Desire 526 is destined to show up exclusively at Verizon. The HTC Desire 626 and Desire 626S will be available across AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Boost Mobile, Cricket, Metro PCS and Tracfone. The exact launch dates and prices of each phone will be announced by each service provider.

While HTC’s new Desire lineup isn’t going to wow anyone, this is the first time that HTC has has a major Desire family roll out on all major US service providers in the US market. To put things into perspective, the two variants of the HTC Desire 626 will be in more stores than the HTC One M9. We’re not sure how much the sales of these new HTC Desire phones will help HTC’s bottom line, but with HTC’s unique design, we expect they will be the must-have choice for anyone looking to buy a new smartphone for under $200.
