HTC One M9 and HTC One M9+ will be updated to Android M

Android M was announced yesterday during the opening Google I/O keynote. While it’s safe to assume that most of HTC’s newer devices will be getting the Android M update once Google releases the code later this year, HTC’s Jeff Gordon announced on Twitter that the HTC One M9 and the HTC One M9+ have officially made the cut. Other device will be added to the list in the future, but we can pretty much guarantee that the HTC One M8, HTC One E8, HTC Butterfly 2, HTC Desire 820 and HTC Desire EYE will be updated to Android M.

If you own the HTC nexus 9, you can already download a developer preview of Android M to get a look as all the new features that Google has baked into the operating system. However, we’d recommend waiting until this fall since there’s no guarantee that the developer build will offer an optimized user experience.

We’re not expecting to see Android M on any HTC devices for a least a few month, but we should start hearing more news regarding HTC’s software update timeline starting later this summer.

  1. I know the One M8 will certainly make the cut, but I think HTC should have said so to begin with, so that some people don’t complain on their social media accounts about missing out.
