HTC adds Car, DLNA apps to the Play store & updates Zoe for Chromecast

We’re doing our best to monitor when HTC updates or adds apps to the Google Play so fans will know when to go try them out. This week we saw three items added or changed and will highlight them below. HTC introduced a couple apps to the Play store this week including a service app for DLNA to improve media streaming services and even broke off the HTC Car app from HTC Sense user interface to provide faster updates of the specific app to the public. With the Zoe app update HTC has implemented several requests from the field to make the media enhancement app more enjoyable by the community.

There’s not much new this time around with the HTC Car app. The latest description simply says that the app has been added to the Play store. We’ve covered pieces that integrate into the Car app before like the HTC Speak app which adds voice control while you are driving.

The HTC Service – DLNA app helps improve the way we connect our HTC phones to streaming media servers. We noticed users saying the Media Link HD doesn’t work with the HTC One M9 in the comments on the Play store for this app so we’ll pay more attention to this combo of equipment.

HTC Zoe 1-36 Update

The biggest change HTC made this week was the update to the HTC Zoe app. For those who don’t know, the app is downloadable to more than just HTC users and Zoes can be shared and edited within the community of app users. Here’s a description of the latest update that I pulled from a private community:

Clip sequence UI: The clip sequence UI is now incorporated into the Zoe editor, the user can readjust the order of the clips in the Zoe video, remove a clip from the Zoe video, and view the clips in fullscreen from this UI.

Chromecast support: The user now has the ability to cast a Zoe video from the feed pages and from the details page.

Upload Retry mechanism: In the event that a user upload fails, now the user has an option to retry the upload again by either tapping the ‘Retry’ button in the alert dialog that is displayed when they tap the upload failure in the notification, or directly from the Zoe feed UI when they tap the Zoe feed item that shows the failed upload Zoe.  The user can also cancel and remove the Zoe video that failed to upload.

Details page enhancement: The video no longer restarts from the beginning when the user changes orientation during playback.

New BI data points: BI data points for client are added.

Apptentive Integration: All events are added so they should be seen on apptentive server console for use to trigger surveys and rating prompts. Surveys and ratings prompts are authored and ready to go.

HTC’s latest update to the Zoe app is a direct result of the communities feedback so if you have some feedback for any HTC app look at the developers details and you’ll notice each app has it’s own email address. Send your feedback that way instead of posting a low star rating with a description.
