Last week, HTC updated several apps to include the already excellent HTC Dot View app and made it even more delicious of a treat than before. The updated app reflects what those who attended Mobile World Congress saw when the HTC One M9 was introduced and a new Dot View case also went on display. HTC Dot View now has live wallpapers, several more static wallpapers, a birthday surprise, custom wallpaper maker, games, scrolling message board, functional controls, and the ability to get notifications from just about any third party app installed on your HTC phone.
Functional features:
Besides being a fun case to show off the HTC Dot View case gains some more functionality. Now users can control the flashlight and voice recorder while the case is closed. First, you will have to open the HTC apps for flashlight or voice recorder then close the lid and double tap the screen to stop and start the function, I must be blind, but I can’t find the voice recorder on my M8 so what I described is how it works with the HTC flashlight app. As a note, I tried to toggle the LED while using Tiny Flashlight + LED app and using Google Now to turn on the flashlight, “OK Google, turn on flashlight.” and the light stayed on so control is limited to the use of the HTC Flashlight app.
Wallpapers:
There’s now 23 themes or Dot View wallpapers besides the black wall with weather and any custom designs you’ve made. New this round is the LIVE THEMES section which has 7 themes that come to life when you double tap your Dot View case. Depending on the birth date listed on your Google account a special Easter egg wallpaper will pop-up to wish you a Happy Dot View Birthday. Don’t try to eat the cake, people!
New apps:
HTC has now integrated apps into Dot View for ever sweeter goodies. Now available for the best retro case out there is Dot Design; an app that lets you create wallpapers from templates, free sketches, the gallery, or a new photo, Dot Breaker; a modified version of the classic Brick Breaker game, and Dot Message; create a scrolling/flashing banner from several text and background colors.
The HTC Dot View case and app have become a winning combo for HTC. Some physical improvements have been made to the case with the HTC One M9 and the cool software additions further solidify the value in the investment of buying the HTC Dot View case. It just keeps getting better and better and we’re only talking about the case!
