Executive shakeup at HTC: Cher Wang appointed CEO, Peter Chou to lead Future Development Lab

Peter Chou is no longer the CEO at HTC. The leadership reigns of the company has been handed over to Cher Wang, co-founder of HTC and acting Chairwoman. While this may appear to be a huge shift for HTC, the change isn’t going to be dramatic. Over the past two years, Cher Wang has been slowly picking up day-to-day company operations tasks while Peter Chou has been focusing more on product development, an aspect of the company that Peter has been vocally passionate about.

In his new role, Peter Chou will head up the HTC Future Development Lab and lead the company into new product categories and help HTC establish itself as a broader consumer electronics company. The HTC RE, HTC Grip and HTC Vive are the first wave of new products which may be the key to HTC’s long-term success.

When the HTC RE was introduced, it felt like a ‘me too” move to break into a new product market that’s highly lucrative. But now that Peter Chou has been moved to push HTC’s strategy in a different direction, it’s clear that this isn’t a hobby and that HTC is fully committed to the next stage in the company’s evolution.
