Android app of the week: Bike Race Free

This week’s app highlight is a longtime favorite of mine and a playful one at that! Bike Race Free is a fun motorcycle racing game that I have been playing for as long as I can remember thanks to the multiplayer mode. In fact, I first installed Bike Race after I started dual-booting my HTC HD2 with Android. Now I play the multiplayer mode every couple of days looking for a good challenger that can keep up with me.

Tweet this: Bike Race allows your brain to take 5 before getting back to the grind.

Bike Race Free has two playing modes: SINGLE PLAYER and MULTIPLAYER.

SINGLE PLAYER

This mode has 152 tracks where you race against the clock to win up to three stars per track. To play you hold your phone with the phone rotated and the bottom edge of the screen level with the floor. Tap and hold the right side of the screen for the gas and hold the left side to break while leaning the phone to balance the rider. With most bikes, the rider will die if his head hits a line and as a tip, make sure you get your rider’s head across the finish flag as soon as possible to stop the clock. For a bit of a challenge you can enable ghost mode to race against your fastest qualified time. There’s also an area that lets you race on user-made tracks and you can download up to three a day until you unlock all the tracks.

MULTIPLAYER

You must get through several of the single player tracks before multiplayer mode is enabled and you can unlock new bikes with different perks along the way. Visit the shop to see which bikes are available and how they can be unlocked without paying for them. Multiplayer mode is great, because you can race strangers, but you don’t have to play during the same time of the day as them. You send opponents a recorded race and you get three attempts before the challenge is sent. They play against your recorded session then record their own randomly selected race which gets sent back to you and the cycle repeats.

The app dev, Top Free Games, occasionally adds new tracks in bunches of eight and right now has hidden Easter eggs throughout the current tracks for you to find. Once you find all the eggs (26 in all) you will unlock a special Easter bike where the rider is a bunny. They also have a few more games if this one doesn’t hold onto your attention.
