Orange HTC Re camera in high demand gets delayed

When the HTC Re camera was announced earlier this month, HTC said that it would ship before the holidays, orange and white would be readily available through several routes, and Best Buy would carry the Re exclusively in navy blue. If you already pre-ordered like we did then you might be getting an email that says the HTC Re in orange has been delayed due to an overwhelming case of supply and demand.

The news comes as a happy surprise for the success of HTC’s venture into this subcategory of lifestyle accessories and we really want to get one in our hands as soon as possible to help demonstrate for you how to get the most use from this unique and stylish camera. As we’ve mentioned before, the Re isn’t trying to directly compete with GoPro as an action camera, but aims to be at your every day events allowing you to point and shoot while keeping your focus on what is happening in front of you versus what is happening behind the camera display.

In the email from HTC, they offer a 10% discount off the camera and three possible options depending on what color and how long you want to wait for your Re:

  1. Switch to a white camera and receive it around November 15th.  We’ll even give you a discount of 10% to reward your desire to get the RE so quickly.
  2. Stick with Orange, just know that the delivery date is pushed out.  We’re also going to give you 10% off of your for your patience.
  3. Get both!  Including 10% off of each of the cameras.

Option #1 is for the fan boy in us that just can’t wait to get the Re and escape from behind the viewfinder. Option #2 is for those who are content with their selection and can handle going without for almost an extra month. Option #3 could be for that lucky someone in your life that you purchase an extra one as a gift for. Who wouldn’t love getting the Re for Christmas! If you’re like us you are wondering where the teal model is. A source at HTC told us that color could be ready as early as December or early in 2015.

As an experiment, we’d love to see your excitement for option #3 as we consider getting an extra Re to giveaway to a random reader on HTCSource.com. Please share/like/+1 this article on as many social networks as you can so we gauge your interest in such a giveaway.

  1. That’s certainly good news for HTC! I was skeptical at first, but it seems like there’s definitely an audience for this!

  2. That’s great to hear and should also help in their efforts to see through another profit in Q4! I’d love to be able to enter a giveaway on the Re camera.

  3. Tsk. It really doesn’t look like much of a camera to me. The shape
of it is goofy looking and to me looks like a camera for people to hold above
their head in crowds at a concert or gathering and that’s about. I would rather
have a GoPro for anything action sport-like or similar. I kind of agree with
Poc when they said that its mostly for social media nuts. Beyond that it sounds
pretty cheap and way too much. Now everything is focusing on 4K this and 4K
that and super high frame rates and what not. HTC focuses on re-releasing what
everyone else already had. (source: http://pocinc.net/blog/product-reviews/review-the-htc-re-camera
