Official: Virgin Mobile HTC Desire 816 price and launch date announced

After months of waiting, the HTC Desire 816 has finally arrived on US shores. HTC and Virgin Mobile have announced that the HTC Desire 816 will go on sale tomorrow, August 12th for $299. Before you start gasping for air, the HTC Desire 816’s $299 sticker price is the full cost of the phone, not an on-contract discount.

On the spec side, the HTC Desire 816 is quite an impressive device. The phone features a 5.5-inch 720p display, 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD expansion (up to 128GB), 2,600mAh battery, 13 megapixel f/2.2 main camera, 5 megapixel front-facing camera and HTC’s trademarked front-facing BoomSound speakers with dedicated amplifiers. It’ll be hard for anyone to confuse the HTC desire 816, but we tend to agree with HTC’s categorization of the Desire 816 as a “flagship mid-range” smartphone.

We’ve had the opportunity to play around with the European HTC Desire 816, but it’ll be nice to get our hands on a version of the phone which has full 3G and 4G network support here in the US.
