HTC J Butterfly unveiled with One (M8) guts, waterproof body, 13 megapixel DuoCamera

The HTC One (E8) is slowly rolling out in select markets across Asia, but with today’s unveiling of the HTC J Butterfly, we doubt HTC plans on bringing its budget flagship phone to Japan any time soon. The HTC J Butterfly is a cross between the HTC One (M8) and the HTC One (E8). The new HTC J Butterfly features a plastic body and all the same specs as the HTC One (E8), but the camera setup on the back pairs a 13 megapixel imaging sensor with a 2 megapixel depth sensor which delivers all the DuoCamera depth and 3D features found on the HTC one (M8).

The full spec breakdown of the HTC J Butterfly includes a quad-core Snapdragon 801, 5-inch 1080p display, 2,700mAh battery, 32GB of storage, microSD card slot (up to 128GB), 2GB of RAM, 13 megapixel rear camera paired with a 2 megapixel depth sensor, 5 megapixel front-facing camera with wide-angle lens, 802.11ac WiFi, LTE-Advanced, Android 4.4 KitKat and a Dot View case support all wrapped up in a IPX7 waterproof shell. And since HTC’s no longer tied to Beats Audio, they are also pairing the HTC J Butterfly with premium JBL earbuds.

HTC is planning to officially show off the Butterfly J at an event in Tokyo on August 19 and the phone is expected to be available on KDDI before the end of August. Surprisingly, the August 19 date matches up with HTC’s press event in New York City. We don’t know if the two events are directly related, but we have seen variants of the HTC Butterfly family (the HTC Droid DNA) make their way to the US market as well.

  1. I love the metal body more than anything else but this phone is a killer machine. and those headphones… OMG!

    1. Actually the Butterfly series have different Sense. If you see the original Butterfly lockscreen and homescreen it’s different than One X.

  2. i cant believe they sacrificed 500 mah of battery (compared to previous htc butterfly) for that second campera. stupid.
