HTC Nexus 9 shown off in Android L promo image

HTC and Google have yet to officially announce the tablet they are working on together, but thanks to a promotional image for Android L we may have been given a peek into the near future and what the tablet will look like. yesterday’s big announcement during the Keynote at the Google I/O conference was the introduction of Google’s newest operating system, Android L.

Although we can’t say for a fact this is the device HTC is launching to make a return appearance in the tablet market, but the tablet in this image looks too unique to be anything currently on the market. Below we will look the current Nexus line of tablets with a personally modified version from Google’s render to see if we can make light of the above promotional image.

We don’t think the promo image includes the Nexus 7 tablet, because it has a wide profile which would actually make it stand a little bit shorter than the Nexus 5 smartphone while sideways. So unless Google did a bad job scaling these images we are not looking at the  Nexus 7 next to the Nexus 5. Also the Nexus 7 does not have front-facing speakers and the front camera is not in the same location.

The Nexus 10 does have front-facing speakers, but that’s about all that we can say is similar between these two devices. The Nexus 10 has a bowed look instead of straight sides and the front camera is placed close to the center of the device in landscape orientation.

This is something similar to what it would look like with speakers on both sides of the screen. We like how minimal the speakers are knowing how much attention HTC affords for design we are willing to speculate that audio quality will be second to none.

How do you think this device compares to the designs we saw leaked earlier this week?
