Rumored HTC M8 Prime gets even better with new leaks

The rumored spec sheet of the HTC M8 Prime was already quite impressive, but new details from @evleaks give the impression that the upcoming device will be the best device ever created by HTC. Previous rumors claim the HTC M8 Prime will have a 5.5-inch WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display, 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 (APQ8084) SoC, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, Category 6 LTE and a upgraded DuoCamera which sports a 5 UltraPixel sensor accompanied by a secondary 18 megapixel depth sensor.

The new details from @evleaks add a waterproofing (rating not given) and a composite of aluminum and liquid silicone (AlSiC) shell. AlSiC is a metal matrix composite consisting of aluminum matrix with silicon carbide particles and is currently used in disc brake rotors, heat sinks, military vehicle armor plating and printed circuit boards.

The HTC M8 Prime is expected to be released in September, so expect to hear quite a few more rumors before it’s officially unveiled.

  1. Ok, I can just about tolerate a 6 month gap before release of this phone, because I bought the M8, without envy or buyers remorse, although I’ll be a bit pissed because I bought the One M8 precisely because I thought there would be only one flagship this year. Personally, though, it isn’t worth buying a new Android phone in September 2014 so close to the release of Android 5.0 & 64bit along with the next gen processors, bigger memory etc…

    1. Well I did like you said with M7 waiting for + or whatever but was only one.
Before always had instead Sensation, I had Sensation XE, instead One X I had One X+.

Now is a bit different story as this phone is not vs S5. These phones are phablets not for everyone use. This one is vs Note 4.

Could be to big like last year. I hope not. Lol

I sit on M7 and I happy even there are somewhere better phones.

Its like hi end audio can go crazy. Enjoy music.

    2. You have to consider that this isn’t a flagship to replace the M8, it’s a flagship in a different category just like Samsung has flagship S and note series devices. The there’s a big difference between a phone with a 5-inch display and one with a 5.5-inch display.

Also, Qualcomm announced their 805 SoC in December of 2013 and it still is not available. You can’t wait forever. HTC is also promising at least two years of software support for their One devices, so the phone will eventually get Android 5.0 or whatever the next major release is numbered as.

      1. Nick, could you even begin to try to explain the duo camera setup on this phone for me? I mean, I genuinely don’t understand why the 18mp as a depth sensor. Could it be that it allows you to choose to use the 18mp as the main shooter in good lighting conditions? Am baffled

        1. You’re on the right track. Technically, the DuoCamera on the HTC One (M8) does capture two images, but the image from the depth sensor is currently discarded once the depth information is calculated. If HTC moves to an 18 megapixel depth sensor, you would be able to capture more detailed depth information, but my assumption would be that the phone would also retain the 18 megapixel image as well. This would give you a high resolution image from the depth sensor and a second image from the UltraPixel sensor. HTC could simply serve up both shots and the user could choose which once to use or they could do some software manipulation and combine the two images into one.

We’ll have to see how this all plays out.
