HTC rumors claims One M8 ‘Plus’ and ‘Advance’ variants in the works

Ready for another round of “new” HTC handset rumors? According to 9to5Google, HTC is working on two new smartphones which will be announced in August or early September – the HTC One M8 Plus and the HTC One M8 Advance. A sources familiar with HTC’s plans claims that the two devices will share similar internal specifications, but will be distinguished by their exterior production materials. The rumor claims that the HTC One M8 Plus will be constructed from metal while the One M8 Advance (intended for Asian markets) will be made of plastic. There’s a reference to water resistant construction, but it’s unclear if applied to one or both phones.

The source claims the M8 Plus and M8 Advance will feature a 2560 x 1440 resolution display (size of the display was not shared), Qualcomm Snapdragon 805, 3G of RAM and a 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization.

While it’s nice to see new devices in HTC’s future, the rumors shared by 9to5Google are a bit confusing. If you leave out the 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization form the HTC One M8 Plus from the rumor, the details of the phone align perfectly with the rumored HTC M8 Prime. 9to5Google is reporting what their source shared with them, but we think a few details got jumbled along the way.

Here’s our take on the rumor HTC One M8 Plus and M8 Advance rumor

The HTC One M8 Plus is most likely the HTC M8 Prime. The device will feature a 5.5-inch WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display, 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 (APQ8084) SoC, DuoCamera – 5 UltraPixel sensor 18 megapixel depth sensor, waterproof construction, 3GB of RAM all wrapped up inside an aluminum and liquid silicone (AlSiC) composite shell.

The HTC One M8 Plus will feature all of the same specifications in a plastic chassis, but will trade out the DuoCamera setup for a more traditional 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization. It’ll be the cheaper version of the HTC One M8 Plus just as the rumored HTC One Vogue Edition is expected to be the cheaper version of the HTC One (M8).

We don’t have any additional evidence to support our claim at this time. It’ll be interesting to see how the rumors will evolve over the next few months.

  1. I think it will be a 5.5″ display. 2560×1440 are high enough to be on 5″ yet.

    1. Its a rumour from unknown source.

I dont see space for it, just doubled name for Prime.
