Sprint releases HTC One Android 4.4.2 update

The long wait for the HTC One’s KitKat update in the U.S. is finally over. Sprint has completed its certification of the update and it now pushing it out to handsets across the country. Sprint is the first U.S. service provider to release the Android 4.4.2 update for the HTC One -one day after HTC’s self-imposed deadline for the release. Many were disappointed when HTC announced that the update release deadline would not be met, but the fact that Sprint has released the update so soon is very encouraging. We wouldn’t be surprised if T-Mobile, AT&T or Verizon completed their certification testing and pushed out the update to their customers within the next two or three days.

Owners of the Sprint HTC One in Canada will get feature like NFC Tap & Pay, cloud printing, Bluetooth profiles from Android 4.4.2 along with minor bug fixes and security enhancements. But the real improvements are tucked in HTC Sense 5.5 which features enhancements to BlinkFeed, Video Highlights, camera improvements, and keyboard which now includes hundreds of emoji. If you have not yet received an update notification on your Canadian, go to Settings > About Phone > Software update > Check now to manually ping the update servers.

  1. My HTC Fetch stopped working after the Sprint KitKat update. Anybody else having a problem with HTC Fetch after the update? Pairing works but can not contact either device.

    1. I was afraid of something like this when I saw the HTC Fetch support page. The T-Mobile and Sprint versions of the HTC One are not listed as supported devices.

  2. DId you ever get your Fetch to connect to your phone? I just updated a recently purchased HTC One to 4.4 last night and my Fetch isn’t working either.

    1. Yes, I just got it working just a few days ago when I updated to version 5.03.651.3 with Sense 6.0 . Apparently there was an issue with the Sprint HTC One and the Fetch with the initial 4.4.2 release. If that does not work for you, there is an HTC Fetch app in the Google App store that I used when the built-in support was not working.

Now if I can only get my HTC Media Link HD device working like it did before the 4.4.2 update …

      1. Cool, I ended up downloading the app too and got it to work. Tell me why you would use the HTC Media link over the Google Chromecast. Is the Chromecast only for computers and this is specifically for phone based content.
