HTC promises 2 year Android update support on new flagship devices

HTC took to Reddit this afternoon to answer user’s questions, but before they got the very first questions, the company announced that it is committing to full years of Android updates for all its flagship phones going forward. While the promise from HTC seems to be a huge step in the right direction, HTC did not provide details on what the 24 month update support really means. Will HTC push out any Android update to its flagship devices which are released within 24 months of the phone’s launch date or will HTC stop pushing updates once the device is 24 months old

Example: HTC M8 launched on March 25, 2014. In February, 2016 Google releases Android version Y. Will HTC commit to updating the HTC M8 to android version Y even if the development cycle exceeds the 24 month window?

Given the immense resource requirements for updates we can’t solve all our past issues, but today we are making a commitment to support all new flagship devices going forward with all major Android updates for 2 years after their release date.
