HTC wins HTC One mini import ban appeal in the UK

The British courts have decided to lift the injunction against the HTC One mini. The ruling came today after HTC pressed for a speedy appeal following last week’s ruling by Judge Richard Arnold which forced HTC to stop shipments of the HTC One mini to the UK. HTC’s legal strategy in this case still depends on proving that Nokia’s EP 0 998 024 patent is not valid, but the company is still working with chip suppliers “on alternative solutions to ensure minimal disruption to our business in the future.”

It’s unclear how much HTC is spending on legal battles these days. A victory against Nokia could have a significant impact on HTC’s bottom line since HTC would not have to pay licensing feeds to Nokia for every device they ship which contains chips which infringe on patent EP 0 998 024.

HTC is delighted that the Court of Appeals has granted a stay on the injunction against our products. We will immediately resume shipment of all of our devices into the UK, including the entire HTC One family. Similarly, our customers should feel confident in their ability to promote and sell all HTC devices. Even though we plan to aggressively appeal the validity decision of Nokia’s EP 0 998 024 patent, we will continue to work with our chip suppliers on alternative solutions to ensure minimal disruption to our business in the future.
