HTC to introduce fingerprint app quick-launch, navigation mode with HTC One max

Today’s HTC One max news continues with new details regarding the phone’s fingerprint scanner. We’ve always assumed that the fingerprint scanner on the back of the HTC one max would be used as a security mechanism to unlock the phone, but a new leak of some of fingerprint scanner’s code releases that HTC has a few extra features built in. Rather than simply copying the iPhone 5S and using the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone, the HTC One max will also be able to assign quick-launch app shortcuts for dedicated finger scans. The code shows that the phone will allow users to scan all ten fingers, giving them to option of tying each finger to a dedicated app.

Swipe your left index finger over the fingerprint scanner if you simply want to unlock your phone. Need to make a phone call? Swipe your right ring finger and the HTC One max will unlock and launch directly into the dialer app.

The fingerprint scanner app code also reveals a navigation mode which allows users to “swipe up, down, left & right to move focus,” closely mimicking the optical trackpad   functionality from the HTC Desire Z (T-Mobile G2).

  1. Now that’s some Tony Stark shit right there! ……but the specs still aren’t up to par on the so called note 3 killer. Disappoints me 🙁

  2. As always with HTC, they’re pushing the boundaries of innovation. I cantvwait for the Max!

  3. Very cool – I was struggling to come up with other applications for the fingerprint reader, but this is definetly a very nice touch. Provided that it reads the prints quickly enough.
Can’t wait to get my hands on da Max!
