HTC execs talk tablets and wearables

In a recent joint-interview HTC’s top two executives, Cher Wang (Chairwoman) and Peter Chou (CEO) discuss their changing roles with the company and draws us a picture of what mobile looks like to HTC as they continue to climb the uphill battle in the mobile-space.

Mr. Chou is handing over a sizable part of his duties to the Chairwoman so he can focus his energy on the innovation part of the company. In the recent months, HTC has lost several team leads and the company’s new strategy is to use the resources within to restore the creativity and innovation our beloved HTC has always been.

During this interview the duo hinted towards several twists to HTC’s lineup to include a tablet in the works that will set the trend for other manufacturers to follow and a new line featuring wearable smart-devices to keep up with the emerging market.  HTC once entered the tablet market with the HTC Jetstream and the HTC Flyer and while we thought the Flyer was a good device at its time of introduction; these products did not grab the spotlight with consumers.

As the topic of “wearables” was expanded, Peter Chou had this to say about HTC’s perspective:

It has to meet a need, otherwise if it’s just a gimmick or concept, it’s not for people’s day-to-day lives. That is an opportunity for us.

We like to see the two most die-hard HTC names openly stepping up their game to give to the company where the help is needed and we look forward to what will unfold in the next chapter of HTC’s product lineup. We personally are fans of smartwatches, but are not sure if a Samsung inspired concept will work for either company. A personal suggestion would be to skip the watch and go straight for the glasses!

Would you buy a wearable smart-device from HTC? If so, what item would you like it to be and what would be a major feature said device would need to have. What about tablets? How can HTC knock the ball out of the park with a game changing tablet?

  1. Very good no point for watch.

Watches its a mens thing Breitling, Ulysses Nardin etc.

Not plasticky Samsung to double some little functions.

Well done Peter its just wasting time and energy to focus on watch.

  2. What we need are better input devices. If there is a ‘wearable’ it should be an input device to a computer, cell phone, or tablet.
