HTC One, Butterfly lines to merge, polycarbonate HTC One on deck for 2014

Though HTC has already announced the HTC Butterfly S (a successor to last year’s HTC Butterfly), rumor has it that HTC will be killing off the Butterfly brand and consolidating the line of products under the HTC One name. While this is more of a shift in the way the devices will be marketed, it does mean we should see a polycarbonate class HTC One sometime in 2014. This would mark a shift in the brand as the current HTC One features an aluminum shell as do the rumored HTC One mini and One Max.

At this point in time, we have no clue when the device will launch, what specs it will feature what markets it would be available in or what name (besides HTC One) it will carry. Does this decision by HTC change your view on the HTC One or Butterfly line of phones? If all other features were the same, would you prefer an aluminum or polycarbonate clad HTC One?

  1. it better be a really good polycarbonate design. Anything less than the HTC One’s quality and feel will be a step backwards

  2. Aluminum is nice but not as durable as polycarbonate. But, aluminum is a better heat conductor which cools the internals and feels better in the hand. Each material has con and pros but for me I choose durability and easiness to repair.
