HTC claims ‘Samsung spent more on marketing than innovation’ – tags Galaxy S 4 as #theNextBigFlop

Last night, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S 4 at Radio City Hall in New York City. The phone features many of the same internal components as the HTC One, but many journalists and consumers have started criticizing Samsung for integrating gimmicky, useless features which most people will only use once or twice simply to show them off to their friends.

Since Samsung is currently the most popular Android manufacturer in the world, HTC has chosen to go on the offensive and point out why the HTC One is a better option than the new Samsung Galaxy S 4. HTC’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ben Ho, released a handful of statements last night, claiming that the “Samsung spent more on marketing than innovation” and that the Galaxy S 4 is simply “more of the same” and “pales in comparison” to the “mouth-watering design” of the HTC One.

“With a continuation of a plastic body, and a larger screen being the most obvious physical change, Samsung’s new Galaxy pales in comparison to the all-aluminum unibody HTC One.

“This is more of the same. HTC remains the best option for those people looking for the best technology wrapped in premium design. Our customers want something different from the mainstream, who appear to be the target for the Galaxy.

“Our customers want original cutting-edge technology, mouth-watering design and a premium feel from their mobiles, which is why we created the HTC One.”

“Looking at the software features of the S4, we think Samsung spent more on marketing than innovation.”

HTC event took its Samsung Galaxy S 4 attack to twitter, dubbing the device as #theNextBigFlop. While we applaud HTC’s confidence in the HTC One, calling the Galaxy S 4 a flop may be taking things a bit too far. In our book, the HTC One is a superior device to the Samsung Galaxy S 4, but that doesn’t change the fact that Samsung will outsell HTC in 2014 by a huge margin. The better phone doesn’t always win the battle.

What’s your take on the Samsung Galaxy S 4 and HTC’s comments about it? Has HTC gone too far or is this the attitude that they need in order to gain back market share in 2013?

  1. The general public aren’t as tech savvy as us and rely on advertising to make decisions on their behalf and both crApple and Sammy have taken this approach to sell their goods.

Personally I agree with HTC’s remark as they are merely stating the facts. Reading about the S4, they should have called it S3s but no, S4 sounds like a new model and people will flock to it simply because of the name.

Just an example on marketing; when I was travelling to Hong Kong last year, the S3 and Note 2 advertising were everywhere – even in the toilet cubicle! Looked around and 80% was holding a Sammy, rest an iPhoney and not a single HTC in sight. Even in shops, the HTC One X was pushed to the back corner.

With the HTC One, I hope HTC will use it as ammunition and advertise the hell out of it as I am sick of watching S3, Note 2 and iPhoney ads at every ad break in Australia (a country run by Sammy and crApple)!

  2. for sure htc went too far seeing the number of processors in the s4 and they way they are being switched for sure the s4 would do better in all benchmark test tha the htc .the lg optimus gpro already did that and to be sincer the htc one is the 3rd best phone on the market hoping sony does not brings out something better.the only reason why i would buy the htc one is because its htc and it has a premium design for the rest i would have prefered having an 8mp ultrapixel camera to compare with other 13mp than the one we currently have.htc could have atleast tried to also get the gorilla glass 3 to compete with the s4 or to get the intel 800 to try to place itself higher than the s4.also please stop removing our home buttons htc very soon we shall be left with no home bottun.just waiting

  3. I really like the HTC One however for HTC to turn around and say that the S4 is going to flop – is quite a big statement.

I personally believe the HTC One X was better than the S3 but the S3 outsold the One X. How did it outsell – it’s simple – marketing. The same with the crApple iPhone 5 (that phone had no innovation at all).

I am seeing a small amount of marketing from HTC but they need to do a lot more. Market the phone based on what it is & what it can do NOT on how you think the S4 is a flop. At this rate based on the ramped-up Samsung marketing the S4 is going to outsell the One & therefore HTC could go under.

  4. I agree. The S4 is nothing new. It is like the iPhone 4s compared to the 5. The differences are not at all worth the price.

  5. Haha haha dont make me laugh by talking like kid’s.I had used HTC phones I did not feel premium or quality and bare so much lose when they drop and screen broken even less then 1 foot. And bettery dont talk about it always carry power bank why htc offers power banks in my word HTC IS JUST HELL.Now I have samsung and I m happy with my samsung range.htc go to hell bye bye
