HTC M4 and G2 models to follow the M7 release

We believe HTC is getting ready to officially announce the M7 later this month, but it looks like that is only the beginning.  Apparently, there are two other devices slated to be released with the code names HTC M4 and HTC G2.

The HTC M4 looks to be a high-end device, although not quite on the same level as the HTC M7.  The M4 will have a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, 4.3″ 720p display, and 16GB of internal storage.  The M4 will have a 13 megapixel camera with a f/2.0 lens and can record video in full 1080p HD.  The front-facing camera will be slightly less powerful than the M7 sporting a 1.6-megapixel camera instead of the 2.0-megapixel camera on the M7.  It’s expected that the M4 will arrive with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board as well as Sense 5.0.

Based on the specifications, the G2 is designed to be an entry-level device.  It will ship with a 1GHz processor, 3.5″ HVGA display, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage and a 5-megapixel camera.  Instead of shipping with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, you will see Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich aboard.

There is no information on the release of these devices, but it’s likely we’ll hear more in the near future and could possibly see them released this Spring.

What do you think of these devices?  Should HTC continue to offer a wide range, or should they focus on a certain type such as high-end devices only?  Tell us your thoughts below.

  1. My Original G2 has Jelly Bean. 🙂 Seems odd they would come with a phone with the same name as an existing model.

  2. G2 might be the already announced Desire U. Specs are exactly the same with the only exception of screen size and resolution.

  3. M4 sounds great. I prefer the higher end specs in a smaller size factor. 4″ is an optimal size for me, so 4.3″ sounds much better than 4.7″

  4. I have an original HTC G2 and I am confused. My device currently is running android 2.3.4 but in this article it says the new G2 will get ICS. Does this mean the older device will receive the update as well?
