HTC Desire U unveiled – heading to Taiwan for $275

With only weeks to go before Mobile World Congress kicks on in Barcelona, HTC has decided that is simply couldn’t wait any longer to unveil the HTC Desire U. If you were hoping for a flagship Android powered phone, the Desire U will certainly disappoint, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a bad phone. The HTC Desire U packs a 4-inch (800 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, 1GHz single-core processor, 512 MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage, microSD card slot (supports up to 32GB), 5-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED Flash, 1,650mAh battery, 3G, Wi-Fi 820.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX, GPS and Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4.

The specs of the HTC desire U aren’t particularly impressive, but the 7990 New Taiwan Dollar (about $275) price point should make quite a few budget-conscious consumers smile. The HTC Desire U will initially launch in Taiwan, but availability of the device should increase shortly after launch.
