HTC boasts the weight of the HTC 8X is lighter than that ‘other’ Windows Phone

While on the verge of a new day with Windows Phone, manufacturers are taking shots at one another in the battle to gain your hard earned money and we are doing what we can to show our support for our favorite fighter. The latest jab comes by way of HTC’s Facebook page with the photo above and the comment below.

Don’t get weighed down. The HTC 8X is more than 20 pennies lighter than that “other” Windows Phone.

Of course in this round HTC is referring to the Nokia Lumia 920 as the “other” Windows Phone. Nokia has fired off comments in the past about their lineup being THE TRUE Windows Phone solely based off their savior partnership with Microsoft. HTC has had a long running partnership with Microsoft that goes all the way back to the first verisons of Mircosoft’s mobile operating systems. So far back in the day that HTC’s devices did not even have a label with HTC on it as the company was just out to make awesome hardware for it’s partners.

HTC made this comment based off of model details from the HTC 8X that is heading to US carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile and comparing them to the Nokia Lumia 920 that is headed exclusively to AT&T. The weight of these models are listed below.

  • HTC 8X = 130 grams
  • Nokia Lumia 920 = 185 grams

We have heard that the HTC 8X model heading to Verizon is going to have wireless charging included in the store model so we expect the weight of this handset to be slightly heavier than the model headed to other US carriers. The Nokia Lumia 920 also has wireless charging built-in plus some extras that may impact the weight of their flagship phone.

How important is the weight when considering which smartphone to buy? What other variables do you consider when buying a phone and the most important to you?

  1. the problem is that though the 8x is a better phone, it is inferior in terms of one or two key features: a) night camera and b) turn-by-turn navigation. That makes the Lumia 920 more attractive.

    1. Good points Gabriel, but some non-techie fans will use the weight to make their purchase. It’s hard to believe sometimes, but it happens! Thanks for the comment.
