Fake HTC DLX press shot keeps hope alive for a global variant of the DROID DNA

Now that the Verizon DROID DNA by HTC has been announced and is scheduled to launch next week, you’re probably wondering when the global GSM variant of the device will be available. Unfortunately, we don’t have an answer to that question, but a newly leaked press shot of the HTC DLX gives us hope that we won’t have to wait too much longer. This latest image follows a rumor from earlier this week which suggested that the HTC DLX would be available in certain Asian countries starting in early December.

That being said, we don’t believe that the image above is real. While @evleaks has provided credit images and rumors in the past, the image of the HTC DLX looks a bit off to us. There are three issues we’ve identified with the image:

  • Date on clock shows September. HTC press shots are always postdated. DROID DNA press shots show December 7th.
  • There is a white line on the bottom right edge of the display. Yes, the image is low quality, but low resolution images should add colors which should not be there – especially not white is the phone’s bezel is black.
  • Overexposing the image in Photoshop reveals distinct photochopping work. There is a smooth black area around the logo which does not match its surroundings and the HTC logo features a much higher pixilation variance from its surroundings.

So what does this all mean? Not much. We assume that @evleaks was not aware of the issues we highlighted above, so his credibility as a reliable source shouldn’t be called into question. We still have plenty of evidence to suggest that HTC is working on a GSM version of the HTC DLX for Europe and Asia. A fake image of the device doesn’t detract from what we already know. And besides, the HTC DROID DNA may be a better device than what HTC plan on launching internationally – mainly because of its price, global GSM roaming capabilities and the fact that it includes wireless charging. Who needs the DLX when the DROID DNA will be available in less than a week?

  1. I NEED AN INTERNATIONAL VERSION!!!!

all people who live in “international” a.k.a “other than Verizon’s GSM coverage type” need it

i’ve been waiting waiting for this guy since last august,, don’t tell me i won’t be able to buy and use it :'(

    1. The Verizon Version in CDMA with LTE and global GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900MHz bands. It’ll work perfectly fine in Europe like any other unlocked HTC phone. The $599 Verizon price is probably about $50 cheaper than what the DLX will be when is launches in Europe.

      1. yup. just confirmed that few minutes ago, but still am not liking the idea of buying a phone with some other company name.. and of course the language barrier is a problem too. am arab and i need arabic as a language in my phone had few HTCs and i get sms from ppl that says: kjgefdewfrtewfligffrekh

        thats annoying :p

USA phones are optimized for USA, am liking the red though
