Configure your Android phone from the cloud using HTC Get Started

Some months back HTC announced the web service HTCSense.com was going to be shut down for renovations and while we were not sure at the time what HTC had in store for us we backed up our contacts elsewhere and eagerly awaited the birth of HTC’s next cloud service. Well, today HTC Get Started is live and offers a whole new suite of services from within your computer’s web browser.

First off, HTC Get Started is reachable via HTCSense.com, but is not open to everyone yet, according to the list there are 24 eligible countries for users with the HTC One X+. Those of us in the United States with similar devices will have to wait for the service to broaden to our models. From a glance, the website looks very intuitive! You can configure a handful of popular accounts like Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft Exchange, and Hotmail. Then, we go on to the options to personalize your phone. You can manually add features like wallpapers, ringtones, apps, bookmarks, lock screen and home screen layouts or you can select from eight recommended styles that fit your personality. Afterwards, these settings are sent to your phone and applied from the notification bar (granted you already have the HTC Account sync’d in the Accounts settings on your phone).

In the second half of last year, HTC bought a company called Dishwire that offered cloud based services very much like we see with the new HTC Sense site. It is feature rich services like this, HTC Hub, HTC Watch, and the HTC Sense user interface that separates HTC from other Android OEM’s. HTC is out to be your Android manufacturer of choice, offering all these built-in features similar to what you would find in Apple’s mobile ecosystem.

We would like to see how HTC’s cloud service evolves, because this looks like the tip of the iceberg for the mobile manufacturing giant. Will HTC bring back some of the original options like: make your phone ring when you can’t find it; even if it is on silent or call forwarding when you forget your phone at home. What other account sync options will we get from the site? Can we manage our Dropbox files from here? How many readers will start using this service?

    1. @mashika, can you please expand your question? I don’t think you can simply go to a site to access the items backed up, but if you ever have to reset your HTC phone the items and settings from your last backup will get pushed to your phone once you sign into your HTC account.

The FAQ section on HTCSense.com says your HTC account allows you access to such services like HTC Backup, but it doesn’t say where to gain access other than from the way I mentioned above. https://www.htcsense.com/en_US/help/faq_account

  1. Complete Games choose various other Modes
or you cannot hook up to the hosts, verify that you’ve got some
anti virus or firewall blocking the text.
