Official: HTC 8X unveiled with Beats Audio, built in amplifier and ImageSense camera features

The HTC 8X has been unveiled, featuring an amazing array of specs which will give HTC the upper hand in fighting Samsung and Nokia for dominance over the Windows Phone 8 platform. The HTC 8X sports a Qualcomm S4 1.5 GHz dual-core processor,  4.3-inch 1280×720 super LCD 2 display with a 341ppi density, optical lamination and Gorilla Glass. The device features 16GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, NFC, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFI a/b/g/n (2.4 & 5GHz) and a 1,800 mAh battery. Depending on carrier support, the HTC 8X will feature GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE/ CDMA/ HSPA/ WCDMA/ LTE connectivity.

The HTC 8X has been blessed with the same camera hardware,  software and HTC ImageChip as the HTC One X and One S. It features an 8 megapixel camera with auto focus, LED flash, BSI sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and 28mm lens. The device is able to capture video in 1080p and has a dedicated camera button. Like most other HTC devices, the HTC 8X features support for Beats Audio. But HTC has taken its recent fetish with audio a bit further this time. The HTC 8X has been equipped with a dedicated amplifier which produces incredibly crisp and robust audio which can be enjoyed through headphone and the speakerphone on the back of the device.

HTC will have a single, integrated marketing campaign with Microsoft which will position the HTC 8X and HTC 8S as signature devices for Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 8 platform. Because of this, the devices will be available in more markets than any other HTC device in history. It’s the “biggest and most ambitious launch for our two companies.”

The price of the HTC 8X was not released, but the device will launch through more than 150 carriers in 50+ countries starting in November. So far, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon have signed on to carry the HTC 8X in the United States, but we wouldn’t be surprised if regional carriers jumped on board before the holiday season.

NEW YORK, 19th September, 2012 — HTC, a global leader in mobile innovation and design, and Microsoft today unveiled the first signature Windows Phones, the stunning Windows® Phone 8X and 8S by HTC®. The smartphones feature the new Windows Phone 8 operating system and boast iconic design, studio-quality sound with Beats Audio™ and incredible camera capabilities.

“Pairing HTC’s beautiful new Windows Phone 8X and 8S with our brand is a big milestone for both companies,” said Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft. “Together we are offering customers a clear choice and a truly unique experience. I’m thrilled to take our longstanding partnership to the next level.”

“We’ve been inspired by Windows Phone 8 to create new smartphones that give the platform the iconic design and personality it deserves,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation.  “Windows Phone has clearly emerged as one of the top mobile ecosystems and is competitive against any other smartphone platform in the world.”

Iconic Design

The only phone with Live Tiles, Windows Phone has a clear, differentiated vision and the consumer experience has been widely recognized as being groundbreaking, innovative and fresh. HTC created the Windows Phone 8X and 8S to blend the virtual and the physical utilizing a three dimensional, pure uni-body design based on the Windows Phone Live Tiles.  The Windows Phone 8X and 8S by HTC are perfectly sculpted with a dramatic taper making them feel magically thin in your hand.

Because color is such an integral part of the Windows Phone experience, HTC is bringing bold, sophisticated and adventurous colors in a premium matte finish to these devices. The Windows Phone 8X will come in a variety of colors including California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow.   The Windows Phone 8S by HTC will be available in Domino, Fiesta Red, Atlantic Blue and High-Rise Gray.

Capture and share your world

For the first time, HTC is introducing a 2.1mp, f/2.0 aperture, 88° ultra-wide angle front-facing camera that allows up to four people and more to be captured at once. It also supports 1080p video capture.  The rear camera sports an 8mp CMOS sensor with backside-illumination (BSI) for improved low-light performance, along with an f/2.0 aperture, 28mm lens and a dedicated imaging chip.  A physical shutter button makes it quick and easy to capture spontaneous action, even if the phone is locked.

Spectacular Sound with Beats Audio

Exclusively available on HTC smartphones, Beats Audio provides authentic, studio-quality sound that delivers the spirit of the original recording. The Windows Phone 8X by HTC featuring Beats Audio also offers a unique audio amplifier powering the 3.5mm audio jack and the speaker, boosting the audio signal for even better sound no matter if you’re listening to music, playing a game or watching a video.

Brilliant Display

The Windows Phone 8X by HTC features a beautiful, 4.3” HD-resolution super LCD 2 screen protected from everyday bumps and scrapes by lightweight Gorilla® Glass 2, while optical lamination reduces reflections and glare, ensuring you see every detail.  The Windows Phone 8S by HTC boasts a bright super LCD 4” screen with Gorilla® Glass, allowing users to see the Windows Phone Live Tiles, and every message and photo, with crystal clarity and sparkling color.

  1. Sorry HTC, love you but not impressive, remember yours roots (like the pun) you are ANDROID based always and forever

    1. HTC has been making Windows Phones since long before Android even existed. In fact, since before the iPhone existed.

    2. If HTC was to remember its roots, it would ditch Android in a heart beat. HTC was the first OEM to produce a Windows Mobile based smartphone way back in 2002.

  2. It seems like it took Microsoft’s guidance to knock some sense into HTC. They’re FINALLY releasing a phone in a wide range of markets and carriers under the same name and with the same hardware. Maybe now they can finally start attempting to gather the brand awareness that Samsung and Apple have. I’m tired of people asking if my One X is “That new Galaxy phone.”

    1. I agree with your comment. I hope they do. The HTC camera pictures that I have seen depending on the phone look as crisp and at times better than Apple’s. The One X is a great phone.

    1. As we originally thought, this event was all about Windows Phone 8. There have been quite a few leaks and rumors around the HTC DIx and HTC One X+ which leads up to believe that service providers will be unveiling each device individually within the coming weeks.

  3. HTC, one X is good enough for me except the ugly camera at back, want have ANDROID 5inch or one X+.

  4. What about new android flagship???
I was expecting one x 5, and be so happy to change my one x for one x 5 for christmas.

I’am so angry on htc right now, I will sold my one x and change my favorite phone maker for another 🙁

Windows phone, does anybody buys that?

Sad but true when samsung fanboys saying htc is done 🙁

  5. I really don’t want to get a Galaxy S3 but T-Mobile is having a zero down deal on any smartphone to fight the iPhone 5 launch. It will take a lot of will power not to buy that thing especially since that is all the premium Android phones they have right now. I really wanted an Android HTC phone but I heard that the One X+ is cancelled due to testing issues. Windows Phone is okay but I never really liked it too much. Even LG is going to release their Optimus G carrier wide in the U.S. It would be very sad if HTC was surpassed by LG in the Android OEM list.
