iPhone 5 compared to the HTC One X, One XL and EVO 4G LTE

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you probably know that the Apple iPhone 5 has been officially unveiled. The tech world is on the verge of spinning out of control with iPhone 5 coverage, so we’ve decided to join in on all the fun. Since we have not had hand hand-on time with the iPhone 5, we can’t tell you how it compared to HTC’s flagship devices, but we can break down the specs and look as the differences and similarities is has with the HTC One X and One XL and EVO 4G LTE.

The two variants of the HTC One X are the current flagship devices in HTC’s arsenal. From a design standpoint, the two devices are identical, but HTC opted to equip the HTC One X with a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor while the HTC One XL was fitted with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. While the NVIDIA chip may be the more powerful of the two, the Snapdragon S4 is more power efficient and has the added advantage of having LTE connectivity built-in. The HTC EVO 4G LTE is Sprint’s variant of the HTC One XL which features a slightly larger battery, built-in kickstand, two-toned back paneling and HD voice calling.

The new Apple iPhone 5 does have a few features which outclass HTC’s devices, but it’s still hard to match them up spec-for spec since Apple has not revealed all the details about the iPhone 5’s processor and memory. One things certain, at 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm witha 4-inch display, the iPhone 5 is a lot smaller than its competition. And while the device has a 326ppi display, consumers will still not be able to enjoy full HD content since Apple has simply added additional rows of vertical pixels while maintaining the 640 pixels seen on the previous two iPhones.

The specs and design of the Apple iPhone 5 certainly are not impressive enough for me to go out and buy one, but I’m wondering if any of you are tempted to ditch your HTC phone. Personally, I’m more excited for the upcoming HTC One X+ and the rumored HTC Phablet.

  1. The iPhone 5 is not all that unless you are in the Apple ecosystem. I will not be getting an Apple phone for sure. I’m waiting to see the actual phones that HTC, Nokia are bringing out for Windows 8. I love Android better, but tired of waiting for ever for updates from the OEM’s. That’s why I will go with Windows 8. for the next 2 years.

  2. It seems HTC was ahead of the curve when they launched the One X and EVo 4G LTE earlier this year. The technology inside those devices is powerful enough to compete directly with the iPhone 5. Things should get interesting once the rumored HTC devices are unveiled.

I’m personally waiting for the HTC Phablet. If there’s an unlocked GSM version, I’ll be placing my order on day one and will be handing off my HTC One S to my wife and will give my HTC Flyer to my dad for Christmas.
