Official: HTC Desire X unveiled with 1GHz dual-core S4 processor and advanced imaging technology

The rumors of the HTC Proto can finally be set aside as HTC has officially unveiled the HTC Desire X at IFA in Berlin. The new Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) powered device features a 4-inch 800 x 480 super LCD, 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm S4 processor and a 5 megapixel camera with HTC’s proprietary ImageChip, a f/2.0, 28mm wide-angle lens, BSI sensor, HDR mode and automatic adjustable flash.

Based on the specs, we’re not really sure why the HTC Desire X was not christened as a One series device since its specs outpace those of the HTC One V and its design has little in common with current Desire series devices. The only advantage to launching this as a Desire handset is that we could be looking at a more budget friendly retail price. HTC has not release any details about pricing as of yet, but the HTC desire X is expected to launch in select markets across Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia starting in September.

The HTC Desire X is skinned with HTC Sense 4.0 and does integrate Beats Audio technology to give users a more immersive sounds experience. HTC has said that an Android 4.1 update for the HTC Desire X is already in the works, but users will probably need to wait a few months before the OTA update is released.

What are your thoughts on the HTC Desire X? Do you think the HTC desire X can replace last years Desire C at around the $300 price point?
