Mysterious HTC tablet revealed with a half dozen pictures

Most of us where disappointer when HTC did not unveil a new tablet at Mobile World Congress. Rumors about the HTC Quattro suggested HTC was working on a 10.1-inch tablet with a Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM and Beats Audio integration. Since then, HTC’s tablet rumors have shifted to the HTC Vertex which is said to feature pretty similar specs, but most of us gave up on the thought of an HTC tablet when HTC claimed that they would be taking a backseat in this market segment and decided to abandon the HTC Flyer and HTC Jetstream on Android 3.0

The hope for w new HTC tablet has been resurrected thanks to a half dozen pictures which surfaced late last night. A seemingly dormant @evleaks Twitter account came to life with pictures of an odd-looking Android powered HTC tablet which has the appearance of being the love child of the HTC One X and an Apple iMac.

The unnamed HTC tablet appears to be sporting a 10.1-inch display and has front and rear-facing cameras. While most other tablets have a uniform design, the tablet pictured takes a few design notes from Sony (the Tablet S features a folded magazine styled bezel for better ergonomics) with an off-centered screen which allows users to hold the tablet more comfortably with one hand. Not much is known about the software, but the one image which does give us a look at the Android home screen looks different than anything we’ve seem before. We also have no indication that HTC will be including HTC Scribe pen integration. We have a feeling that the rumored 5-inch phablet with a 1794 x 1080 resolution display may be a little off-base.

For now, all we have are these few pictures to go off of. If this unnamed HTC tablet does turn out to be real, we assume HTC will be using a Tegra 3 Plus or the new Snapdragon S4 Pro chip to make sure that performance is ahead of the curve.

What are your thoughts? Is the design of this tablet what you would expect from HTC?

  1. The design is quite nice, i like it. I hope it will have a S4 Pro chip and it will be released this fall.

    Thanks for the photos!

  2. Why HTC bringing out a new phablet when they cannot support the Flyer, give us an upgrade don’t make us have to spend more money on your products

    1. Ummm…. HTC’s goal is to sell new devices. If all they ever did was keep old devices up to date, they would be out of business in less than a year. What keeps the cmopany alive is sales of new phones and tablets.

  3. @Richard @Sam you are both right. HTC should sell new devices and support the older devices in the same time.

I like the fact that they will be releasing a new tablet but i don`t like that my Desire Z won`t get ICS officially.

    Sorry for bad English!

  4. @ DROID Sam, Yes I agree that a company has to move with times, but not all of us have loads of cash to spend everytime a manufacturer releases a new device. What I’m saying is that HTC released the Flyer as a different device to the “fruit based device” and other “Android” devices, I love HTC. But if they are not prepared to update the devices they once rated as the best then they may lose custom. HTC have alot of issues recently, they need to refocus on current and new devices to a standard that puts them above the rest.
