HTC Rezound for Verizon goes global OTA update on its way

It appears that Verizon has an update for HTC Rezound users to download that will enable global roaming for the Android-based smartphone. Our source listed below caught wind that XDA-Developers member, MicroMod had extracted the 104 MB download from a leaked ROM and began a thread to see if other users had installed the patch and how it was working out.

As time went on in the popular online forum, others offered their comments to confirm the legitimacy of the update and that the global feature was in fact included in the update; allowing Rezound users to take and use their phone while outside of the US. Of course, special rates apply when using your US-based phone in another country, see Verizon’s rates here.

It looks like Verizon set forth the initiative in June to provide more global capable 4G smartphones and while the HTC Rezound received its Ice Cream Sandwich update very recently this patch must not have been ready to hit users phones yet. Either way, the Rezound can now be advertised as an appealing option for customers in the market for an Android phone to travel overseas with them.

Effective June 22, 2012, select 4G smartphones can roam on both CDMA and GSM networks at 2G/3G speeds. (There is no roaming on 4G service outside the U.S. at this time).

  • The 4G device must have updated global software and establish a data session on the Verizon Wireless network prior to leaving the U.S.
  • Add global features via the Change Features and My Device screens in My Verizon.

Do we have any readers with a Rezound that plans to travel out of the US soon? If so, please let us know if you intend to take advantage of this feature. Check out the source link for details on manual installation or go into the About portion of your phone’s settings to check for new software updates.
