HTC misses end-of-August deadline for releasing Android 4.0 to remaining handsets

When HTC reassured us three weeks ago that the remaining Android 4.0 updates would be delivered before the end of AUgust, we had hgh hopes. HTC has release more Android 4.0 update to its older devices than any other Android manufacturer and we were pretty sure that things were getting close when we were treated to a leaked ROM of what looks to be the final Android 4.0 build for the HTC Thunderbolt.

Unfortunately, the final days of August have come and gone with no update in sight for the remaining phone which are on HTC’s Android 4.0 update. HTC has not issued an official statement to the press, but they have started responding to comments on their Facebook page, letting handset owners know that the update will not be delivered in August. No new release date is given which leads up to believe that they are simply waiting for carrier testing of the new software to finish up, but it’s hard to tell when that might happen.

[quote]We’re aware we missed the deadline and know you’re looking forward to the update. We’re very eager to get ICS to you as well. Right now, we’re actively working with Verizon on ICS software for the Incredible 2 and Thunderbolt, and we’ll notify customers as soon as we have an update.[/quote]

We know a lot of you are frustrated that you still do not have Ice Cream Sandwich on your HTC device. Honestly, we didn’t expect HTC to miss its deadline at all. We’ve sent out a few emails to a few of our HTC contacts to see if they can share any more details on the situation. As soon as we have more news, we’ll be sure to let you know.

  1. 9 months of waiting, till now no ICS on my Rhyme, no specific date and rumors that the update will be via RUU not via OTA.

    they obligate us to buy the new one and desire series.

    bad way of business.

    i have a question:
    my Rhyme will get the update via RUU or OTA???

  3. I updated my HTC Rhyme to ICS via the RUU route. So far I don’t have much to complain and like it better.

      I am trying to upgrade my htc rhyme. But, I am unable to find the updates and even don’t know how to do it. Could you please suggest me how to do it.
