T-Mobile computer system lists HTC Era 42 with September 26th date

HTC may have promised to release fewer flagship devices in 2012, but that doesn’t seem to have slowed down the number of handsets they will actually release this year. According to a leaked picture of one of T-Mobile’s computer systems, we may have a new HTC handset to play with in late September – the HTC Era 42. If the name sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because the original T-Mobile G1 was known as the HTC Era in Poland and several other eastern European countries. We’re not sure if the return of the Era name indicates that HTC is actually working on a new G series device, but we do agree with speculation form TmoNews that it is a likely possibility.

T-Mobile’s last G series device (the LG made G2x) was a bit of a dud, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have success with QWERTY equipped successor to the G2. HTC has stated that QWERTY devices are not a high priority for the company right now, but it would be hard for them to pass up a custom order from T-Mobile if the price is right.

The September 26th date listed for the HTC Era also lends a bit of credence to the T-Mobile G3 speculation since it would roughly mark the two year anniversary of the G2 launch which was released two years after the original G1.

How many of you would be interested in the HTC Era 42 if it turns out to be the T-Mobile G3 with stock Android 4.1 and a QWERTY keyboard which puts the Motorola DROID 3 to shame?

  1. I’ve been waiting for a successor to the G2 to upgrade. I’m just hoping they keep in line with the One series. I wouldn’t mind a release ahead of schedule, either.

  2. I will hope the specs are similar the rumored Verizon Dix device w/a Quad core S4 chip, 1080p screen, 2GB RAM, 32÷64GB internal storage with an SD card slot of up to 64GB, bigger replaceable battery of abt 2500 mAh, a 12/16 Mpx rear and 2/4 front camera but please no qwerty keyboard. Also hoping for a device less than 130mm tall.

  3. I would definitely be interested if it came with the qwerty keyboard. I loved my g2 but someone stole it out of my car. come on G3 ( HTC era 42)
