Rumored HTC Era 42 turns out to be the HTC One X+, not the QWERTY equipped G3 we were hoping for

QWERTY fans got a bit excited last week when rumors about the HTC Era 42 started floating around. Not much was known about the device, but the name did have a loose affiliation with the HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1). It turns out that our speculation of a QWERTY equipped T-Mobile G3 may have been off track, but new details about the HTC Era 42 may still bring a smile to your face.

According to the latest report from TmoNews, the HTC Era 42 will launch as the HTC One X+. Other than the name, no new details are known about the device. While the lack of hardware specs is disappointing, the news about a T-Mobile branded HTC One X isn’t new. Back in April, Taylor from Android and Me posted that T-Mobile and HTC were working on a Tegra 3 powered variant of the One X. While the plus in the HTC one X+ name may simply be there to set it apart from AT&T’s version of the device, we have a feeling that the handset could be sporting the new 1.7GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3+ or even Qualcomm’s new quad-core S4 Pro chip which are both expected to hit the market this fall.

Hopefully we will be getting more details about the HTC One X+ in the coming weeks. Are you disappointed that the HTC Era 42 is not a QWERTY equipped G3?

  1. Hold on. I thought that the T3 did not support HSPA+ 42 and that the T3+ was merely a T3 with an LTE radio next to it. I really hope it’s the Snapdragon S4 quad with Adreno 320. I’d also prefer a stock G3 instead, even if it’s without a keyboard. Nevertheless, I’ll definitely be getting this over Samsung.

    1. The Tegra 3+ is the second generation of Tegra 3 chips with more power. There will be a subset of these chips which will feature LTE connectivity.

  2. The scant details are discouragin, but I will now be holding off on purchasing the Samsung Galaxy S3 in August. If there is any truth to this story (and I pray there is) I so badly want T-mobile & HTC to WHOOP up on AT&T, Verizon and Samsung with a device that blows everything else out of the water! I WANT MY QWERTY KEYBOARD and that is what has kept holding me back from upgrading since April–despite a broken micro-USB port on my T-mobile G2. If they deliver a hard QWERTY keyboard AND a quad-core processor…I’m sold!!! Sign me up! I’ll pay in advance… 🙂

  3. oh yeah….if ANYONE at HTC is listening…. any new T-mobile “G” series device NEEDS REMOVABLE microSD. For me that is also a deal-breaker on the current HTC One series!!!

  4. Having a physical keyboard coupled to a quad core only makes sense – having all that high end graphical rendering power only to have it ruined by unresponsive touch-pad controls is horrible.

The only reason I have held off on the phenomenal Motorola Photon Q is that I hear rumors of a quad core equivalent coming in the pipeline.
Once the phone with QWERTY/Quad Core/LTE/Gorilla Glass comes in, I am ordering it.
