This morning HTC, by way of their Investor page, announced on the behalf of Beats Electronics, LLC the acquisition the popular streaming music service known as MOG for 14 Million US dollars. As you may know, HTC owns a large part of Beats Audio so this acquisition will more than likely have an impact on HTC and the products they offer to customers world-wide.
The popular subscription based music service has come pre-installed on several HTC handsets on the AT&T network like the HTC Vivid and HTC One X and you can join the 12,000 others, like me, who have downloaded it from the Google Play store for free. MOG is not only limited to smartphones; with partners like Google TV, Roku, Logitech, LG, Ford, Mini Cooper, BMW, and more making it possible to listen to music just about anywhere. Additionally, MOG is a service available to users of many Apple products like Mac computers, iPod, Apple TV, iPad, and even the iPhone.
Combined with newer HTC handsets that have the Beats Audio sound profile, a pair of Beats by Dre headphones, and MOG one could easily lose themselves in the endless possibilities of musical goodness. MOG offers over 15 million songs, including newly released music, radio stations that play only the artist one searches for, and ways to search and discover all sorts of music as well.
Is HTC on the right path to creating its own ecosystem that fits right into the heart of many people’s lifestyle or is this acquisition a bad move by the Beats Electronics, LLC board? We look forward to how this will unfold and plan to keep readers posted when more information is available.
