HTC Desire HD Android 4.0 update officially canceled by HTC

It’s been a roller-coaster of a week for HTC Desire HD owners. On Monday, Telus posted that the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update for the HTC Desire HD has been canceled due to performance issue with the software. Two days later, HTC issued a generic statement, claiming that the Android 4.0 update for the Desire HD was still on track and would be delivered to customers on schedule.

Unfortunately, things have taken a turn for the worse. HTC has now announced that the Android 4.0 update for the HTC Desire HD has in fact been canceled. HTC’s latest statement on the issue claims that the custom experience on the HTC Desire HD’s Android 2.3 build is better than it would be on Android 4.0 or above.
After extensive testing, HTC has determined that the current version of HTC Sense with Android provides customers with the best experience on the HTC Desire HD.  When we consider new versions of software, we weigh a number of factors, but ultimately the customer experience on the product is the deciding factor. We apologize for any confusion this change may have caused our customers.
We know there are a lot of HTC Desire HD owners who are extremely disappointed with HTC right now. HTC has not made any reference to the AT&T HTC Inspire 4G, but we are going to assume it will finish out its remaining days on it’s current software build.

Update: I apologize for any confusion this post may have caused. Any referenced to Android 4.1 were inadvertent.

1. I’m a bit confused. So 4.0 got cancelled or 4.1? One is ics and the other one is jelly bean, it’s different.

1. Sorry for the confusion. I typed 4.1 a few times rather than 4.0. The text has been updated.

2. such a shame. i’m running 4.0 on my inspire (check xda forums 😉 ) and it’s absolutely awesome.

3. Hi i av a htc incredible s and since the 4.0 upgrade i am really disapointed,i thought My phone.was great b4 nut now it is.an.absolute bag of Poo!

1. While people will be mad about HTC dropping this update, you comment is probably why HTC has decided to drop the Android 4.1 build for the Desire HD. The phone can run the software, but HTC can not deliver a desirable user experience with the update.

4. The dhd is an outstanding handset. It also has a perfect hardware combination.
The only thing is the low ppi screen, which can still be beared.
So on what basis was the upgrade to ice was cancelled,
When the system is good enough.
And one more thing ……..if HTC has cancelled the engine update ,,for whatever reasons
Then they should atleast upgrade the sense to 4.0 instead of 3.6.
And I am very sure it won’t be a hastle for HTC.
Thie existing sense version is good but consumes more Ram .
I would appreciate if the next sense update takes care of it.
Cause at the end good performance is always better and faster performance always preferable.

5. i was recommended to my friend to buy desire hd.i said it will update to android 4.0 ics. but now i become lier. my next and future phones never going to be htc. and i will not recommend to my friends.
