HTC released GSM EVO 3D Android 4.0 update – Sprint customers still stuck on Android 2.3

Android 4.0 for the HTC EVO 3D has arrived! The Ice Cream Sandwich update for the handset has started rolling out to handset users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. HTC is staggering the update rollout based on different carriers, but we expect most GSM HTC EVO 3D handsets to receive the update within the next two weeks.

Like all the other Android 4.0 updates from Android 2.3, HTC is including HTC Sense 3.6 which wraps all the latest Ice Cream Sandwich features into a slightly tweaked Sense UI which is lighter and more responsive. The 300MB OTA update should take less than 20 minutes to download and install, but you can speed up the process just a bit if you download the file over WiFi.

For now, Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D owners are stuck on Android 2.3 – not the least bit surprising since the CDMA/WiMax variant of the phone most likely requires a bit more testing to make sure things are working properly on Sprint’s network. HTC’s Android 4.0 update timeline indicates that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the  EVO 3D should be fully deployed by the end of July, giving HTC another five weeks to deliver on its promise.

Can you wait another 3-5 weeks for your HTC EVO 3D Android 4.0 update?
