HTC One X gets root access a month before launch

We’re not sure how we missed this, but the HTC One X has already been rooted. Earlier this week, Paul O’Brien from ModDaCo fame released a superboot image which does all the hard work of rooting with a few simple clicks. Unfortunately, superboot for the HTC One X will only work with devices which already have S-OFF or has an unlocked bootloader from HTCdev. From what we know, we’re still waiting for the development community and HTC to unlock the bootloader on the HTC One X.

Its nice to see the development community already working on the HTC One X considering that the phone is not expected to go on sale in Europe until the first week in April. Personally, I’ve always rooted my HTC phones as soon as root was made available. How many of you plan on rooting your HTC One X once you get your hands on it this spring?

Superboot is a boot.img that when booted, will root your device the first time you boot (installing su and the superuser APK). No need to flash any partitions, no need to mess around with ADB, no messing with the contents of your data partition, no overwriting the shipped ROM on your device, just boot the boot image using the instructions below and you’re done!
