HTC is still rolling out Android 4.0 to the HTC Sensation across Europe and we’re expecting the Sensation 4G to receive the under in the U.S. market before the end of the month, but we have a cool mod for those who have rooted their devices and are running a stock Android 4.0 build on their HTC Sensation. NODO-GT from XDA-Developers has released a modified camera application for the HTC Sensation which delivers uncompressed images and videos which increases the files size and subsequently produces sharper images.
Dubbed HQ Sensation Camera for ICS, the camera mod allows 1080p video to be recorded at 20 Mbps and there’s also an experimental 1250 ISO mode which should help image quality in low light situations. We have not been able to test the camera mod ourselves, but forum comments indicate that most people are very pleased with the results. Unfortunately, there is a down side to shooting uncompressed video and pictures – file size. Full resolution images can be as large as 6 megs while a 60 second video recorded at 1080p can check up over a gig of storage space. At that rate, you could will a 32GB microSD card in just less than 30 minutes of video recording.
Check out the two sample images below to see the difference in quality between the stock and modded camera application. We’d be interested to see how HQ Sensation Camera for ICS image and video quality stacks up against that of the HTC One its dedicated imaging chip and ImageSense technology.
