Benchmarks show Android 4.0 update from HTC delivers significant performance boost

Android 4.0 is finally here for the HTC Sensation, Sensation XE and Velocity. We’ve all been waiting patiently to enjoy all the new goodies included in the Ice Cream Sandwich update, but we’re hearing that the latest Android build brings significant performance improvements as well. The video included with the HTC velocity post from earlier today mentions that the HTC Sense 3.6 launcher is a lot smoother than previous iterations, but our friends over at Engadget thought it would be prudent to put the HTC Sensation XE through a new series of benchmark tests to see how Android 4.0 stacked up again Android 2.3.

The resulting numbers give the Android 4.0 update with HTC Sense 3.6 a leg up over its previous build. The benchmarks scores showed significant performance improvements in 3D rendering which should be excellent news for those who enjoy 3D gaming and plan on holding on the their Android phone for a while longer.

Sense 3.0 Sense 3.6
Quadrant (v2) 2,097 2,213
Linpack (single-thread) 54.05 45.91
Linpack (multi-thread) 75.4 56.79
Nenamark1 (fps) 46.4 60.7
Nenamark2 (fps) 24.9 41.2
Neocore 61.1 61.1
SunSpider 9.1 (ms, lower numbers are better) 3,366 2,020
Vellamo 1,043 1,562
GLBenchmark – Egypt 24fps 46fps

We’re not sure how things will turn out for HTC device running on single-core processors, but we’ll be sure to let you know once more Android 4.0 updates start rolling out to other HTC devices.

  1. Interesting that the linpack scores went down somewhat, but the gains in rendering performance are obviously more noticeable. It’ll be interesting to see how the One S performs, though it should be pretty close to Anand’s findings when they tested the Qualcomm MDP.

  2. Hi everybody , I need help please
    My phone is hTC Sensation
When I bought it ( 6months back ) the Android version was 2.3.2 then after few days I could update to 2.3.4
But since that time my phone cannot find new software when I try from the settings ( Software updates – Check now )…So how to update my phone ??!!!

    Thanks a lot

    1. I depends on what market you are in and who your service provider it. HTC is pushing out Android 4.0 in Europe right now, but we are expecting HTC to release the update on T-Mobile USA before the end of March.
