Sprint and T-Mobile to launch the HTC One X as EVO and G series phones

For some, the excitement of HTC’s new handset announcements wore off pretty quickly when it was announced that the HTC One XL (an LTE enabled version of the One X with a Qualcomm S4 processor) would be available exclusively from AT&T in the US market. Fortunately, a new rumor is going around which suggests that both Sprint and T-Mobile customers will be able to purchase a variant the HTC One X later this spring or by early summer.

According to Evan Blass from Pocket Now, Sprint will be launching their own version of the HTC One X under the EVO brand. Like the HTC One XL that’s heading to AT&T, Sprint’s version will be powered by Qualcomm’s S4 chip so it can hop on to Sprint’s new 4G LTE network. Possible names for the phone include EVO LTE, EVO HD, and EVO 3.

The T-Mobile version of the HTC One X will stay true to the original and will feature the same quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor with HSPA+ connectivity. Since T-Mobile already has plans to release the HTC One S with Sense 4.0, they will be releasing the One X as the G4X handset which means users will be treated to stock Android 4.0.

T-Mobile and Sprint are expected to announce the two phones at CTIA in May, so we don’t expect them to be released until June or July of this year. It’s nice to see Sprint and T-Mobile continue their commitment to the G and EVO series of devices and deliver more HTC device to US customers. We know that many of you were hoping for a G3 on T-Mobile as a replacement for the G2, but who’s to say that they don’t have something in the works? The G2 was released two years after the G1 made its debut. If T-Mobile keeps with tradition, a true replacement for the G2 could show up in October.

For more details about both rumors, we recommend checking out Taylor’s post on Android and Me. So what do you think? Are the new rumors good enough to get you excited again for the HTC One phones?

  1. You’re making me pull out my hair! I’m confused. I thought the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip was a quad core chip and you call it a duad. Obvious typo but which way? Du – al or qu-Ad? I will jump on this if it is the quad core chip!.

  2. As a Sprint customer, I have to say I’m extremely excited. My only complaint though, is if Sprint doesn’t plan to have a LARGE majority of the US market including El Paso, TX, blanketed by LTE within a year of the phones release, why not just release the quad-core beauty. I’ll be lining up either way but boy, would it be nice to get the quad-core version on the Sprint network.

  3. Wow! This article had so many typos and grammar mistakes. A simple proof reading would of done wonders!

Multiple times “Sprint” was referred to as “Spring”. And HTC was referred to as HTc. Not to mention the quad core tegra 3 being called a duad core…

  4. its is no good if it is not the quad core tegra 3!!!!!! sprint really needs to step up its game, they are falling of fast, dual core!!!!! i really want the HTC Zeta, what happened to that phone???

  5. I was really hoping for it on Verizon ! Hope we get the HTC one x or maybe even a newer better one by this summer ?
