HTC to introduce ‘early access preview’ for Android 4.0 updates

Today, HTC announced that they will be implementing an “early access preview,” or essentially a limited beta test, prior to rolling out OTA updates for Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0).  These updates will allow select users to test updates prior to releasing them to the general public.  The first of these new ICS tests should start rolling out to a few hundred European Sensation and Sensation XE owners.  HTC intends for this model of software testing to continue with other devices in the future.

I suspect that once released, you will see developers port the update to the T-Mobile Sensation as well as other devices before the official update is released by HTC.  Just a reminder, this first update is only for select European Sensaation and Sensation XE owners.  Once additional software dates and markets are announced, we will bring them to you.

HTC is doing something new and pretty cool in the coming days: we’ll be releasing an “early access preview” of our ICS upgrade for the Sensation and Sensation XE. This will be limited in scope (just a few hundred users and only in Europe) because we’re still scaling up back-end resources for general availability worldwide, and our hope is people will play with it and enjoy getting used to the ICS experience with Sense. We’ll be doing similar previews for other devices in the future, too.

Let us know if you are one of the lucky users to receive the first “early access preview” and how it works on your Sensation.
