HTC Phones in North America Listed to get Ice Cream Sandwich

In a note on HTC’s Facebook page called Ice Cream Sandwich Updates: The North American Edition, the manufacturer mentions a couple of older devices and confirms a few recently released models for receipt of the newest flavor of Android called Ice Cream Sandwich. The list below includes mostly smartphones on the Verizon Wireless network, but also throws a bone to Canadian customers on Bell and Rogers networks.

Verizon:

  • HTC Droid Incredible 2
  • HTC Thunderbolt
  • HTC Rhyme
  • HTC Rezound

Bell and Rogers

  • HTC Raider

The Facebook note teases us with these names, but does not specify a timeframe the update is to begin streaming to customer’s handsets. We should expect to see more information in the next couple of weeks as the note implies so do not click too far away from this site if you are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Android 4.0 update on your phone as we will be sure to keep you posted. We hope to know something firm by the time Mobile World Congress rolls in and out of Barcelona at the end of this month.

Will HTC use this opportunity to roll out an early adopters option in North America like we heard about two days ago for European customers using the HTC Sensation or HTC Sensation XE? Which HTC phone do you have that you want to see supported by HTC with the Android 4.0 operating system?

  1. Are you seriously mental? The raider is a holiday variant like the Vivid. It had 16gb internal storage & a 1.5ghz dual core snapdragon s3 + arm7-neon. It takes 1080p video @ 30fps & 720p @ 60fps.

You must either be confused, or just have never had the LTE capable Raider. It is a better, more powerful device than every other device listed. Really, do a little research before you write. This is why bloggers aren’t considered journalist by the mainstream.

    1. Sorry for the confusion. It was my mistake. For some reason I was thinking that the Raider was the HTC Explorer. Thanks the comment and helpings us keep things in check.

  2. @gsleon3, you are correct. The Raider comment was about an older phone with a similar code name. The HTC Raider is a variant of the HTC Vivid and is probably capable of running the next 2 or 3 versions of Android! Good catch and thanks for keeping us on our toes.

  3. Congrats HTC on adding the Thunderbolt to the list. Now give us a release date and we can call it a day.
