HTC confirms first wave of Android 4.0 updates to roll out in March – adds three new devices to ICS update list

The countdown for the first Android 4.0 update for HTC’s devices has begun! HTC just announced that the first wave of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) updates will be pushed out by the end of March. The first wave of Android 4.0 updates will be rolled out to the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation 4G, HTC Sensation XE. The update for the Sensation XL should trail the first update by a few weeks.

Additionally, HTC confirmed that the Android 4.0 update for the HTC Rezound, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Vivid is still in the works while adding the HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire S, HTC Incredible S to the Ice Cream Sandwich update list.

So far, our HTC Ice Cream Sandwich update predictions from last October are turning out to be true. Since the HTC Desire HD is officially on the list, the HTC Thunderbolt, HTC Inspire 4G, and myTouch 4G will most likely make the cute as well since they all feature the nearly identical specifications.
HTC has been working hard to get its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades ready, and we’re excited to announce that our first round of ICS upgrades will roll out by the end of March for the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Sensation XE, followed soon there after by the HTC Sensation XL.

In addition, we can confirm Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades will be coming later this year to the HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD. Stay tuned for more updates on Ice Cream Sandwich releases in the coming weeks.
While it does feel like HTC is taking its time with the ICS update, we’re actually tracking a bit better than the Gingerbread updates which rolled out last spring. We should see more details from HTC within the next coming weeks, so don’t be discouraged if you’re HTC phone is still not on the official HTC Android 4.0 update list.

    1. I know it’s good to keep hoping, but I doubt HTC will be updating the EVO 4G. It’s an amazing phone, but it’s probably time to move on.

      1. I think carriers should tell us that their going to make your phone EOL right after you buy it!! If I had known that I would have def. got the EVO 3D beings that they were the same friggin price!

  1. Noticed that the Rhyme isn’t on the list albeit having identical
specs as some of the devices that “made the cut”.
    Any news there?

    1. No official news on the Rhyme, but since it’s essentially the Incredible S/2, it’ll probably be mentioned in HTC’s next update in a few weeks.

    1. I love it when ignorant people like you post comments like this. You EVO 3D will probably get the update in April and will most likely be on ICS months before phones from other manufacturers get the update.

      Chill man.

  2. Good job HTC. It sounds like they will be the first to release ICS updates. From what I can tell, HTC’s list already includes more handsets than Sony’s full 2011 lineup which is supposed to get ICS as well.

What I want to know is if these phones will get Sense 4.0 or the 3.6 build that’s been floating around the forums.

  3. This is frustrating. I have HTC’s first statement saying the EVO 3D will be getting the ICS update in first quarter. Say whatever makes you feel less like a liar but now I have to wait a year, thanks. This is why people are jumping ship. Thank god for the Galaxy Note.

    1. HTC’s first statement said updates would be coming in “early 2012” this is the first time we are getting any details about specific timing.

  4. Droid Sam has a good point. I just have no patience. I’ve had it in my head that we would get ICS in first quarter since November 7th so today’s news just upsets me. I won’t leave HTC cause I don’t like not having Sense. I just commented before I calmed down. I wish they just wouldn’t tell you if they’re not sure.

  5. I want 4.0 on my Rezound! but I feel bad that a bunch of other high end HTC phones like the EVO 4g won’t be getting it, it may just take some time

  6. Waiting and more waiting but it will be worth it if the updates are all good. At least I know my Sensation is on the list. Yeah.

  7. I have both the Sensation and Flyer and cannot wait for both to receive this update, will 4.0 HTC Sense be on the same update?

  8. why you doesn’t include htc desire Z in the upgrade, and wtf waiting for the end of the year ,i will probably changing from htc to samsumg cause they care more about their customers and they upgraded their devices better than you do and with less prices, show customers if you can do better

  9. I really hope they give the granddaddy EVO 4G to the list!! If we don’t get the update then I’m probably done with HTC phones.

  10. I’m done with HTC already they are starting to suck balls freezing up shutting down crashing all the time changing to Samsung myself

  11. I agree! The Desire Z should be fast enough to run 4.0.
I will be very disappointed if the Desire Z will not be updated.

  12. Updated my HTC sensation xe from GB to ICS three days ago. Shit was I wrong to update. Now, my phone keeps freeezing constantly upon 10-15 minutes of regular usage. Wifi doesn’t work on ICS. It keeps lagging. All sorts of problem. Tried to fix it by searching google. All instructions are either ineffective or negative or just too confusing to follow for nontech guy like myself. So I can’t seem to downgrade nor fix the wifi issue without taking the risk of bricking my 1,000$ phone. I am stuck. shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

  13. i just would like to know how may i be able to upgrade my HTC Desire S to ICS 4.0? please let me know.

  14. when the updates will available for htc desire hd i eant 4.0 in my desire hd plz update

  15. I really hope i can find someone kind enough to allow my HTC Wildfire S to be upgraded to 4.0. The simple answer is because i love my phone and i know that it has a few successors ahead of it but i can still do so much with it. I know it’s a big ask but i don’t want to change my phone just yet. To be honest, i know that it can be done and the last thing i want to do is the root the phone to allow this for obvious reasons but uno…

    Here’s hoping 😉

  16. Why not the HTC Desire Z. Great phone but soon to be replaced by a Samsung without an update!

  17. Wtf i have a chacha and tis is stupid u know only other f selphone geth a update yeah right
F htc i go buy iphone this is stupid update all selphone not one and other can stik it up the arse
