Sprint beginning to remove Carrier IQ from HTC devices

carrier_iq

In December, Sprint stated that they would remove the network diagnostic tool Carrier IQ, from all their devices. Now, an HTC representative has confirmed that they are working with Sprint to begin removing the infamous software from HTC devices. The first HTC device on Sprint’s network to actually have Carrier IQ removed was the HTC EVO 3D which received an OTA update late last week.

Let’s hope that this isn’t just Sprint removing one network diagnostic tool and implementing another in it’s place. Do you feel optimistic about this or do you believe that carriers are already looking for something to replace Carrier IQ in the near future?

HTC can confirm that we’re working with Sprint to provide maintenance releases that will remove Carrier IQ and provide security enhancements and bug fixes beginning in January.

Eventually carriers need a program that informs them how their network is performing etc. Not as invasive as “Carrier IQ”.
