Android 4.0 update confirmed for the HTC Flyer

As you know, HTC Flyer and Evo View 4G have recently received Honeycomb via an update. For some users this update may be a disappointment because the user experience is completely changed. It is worth mentioning some disadvantages such as loss of physical buttons for the benefit of virtual permanent buttons and a new launcher which changed the home screen grid and HTC’s Sense widgets that many of us have come to love over the years.

Many people have contacted us to learn how to go back to Gingerbread. Advanced users know that downgrading to Gingerbread is an option if you can get your hands on the right RUU, but taking matters into your own hands is always a bit scary if you’re not 100% sure of what you are doing.

So are there any other options?

HTC-Hub contacted HTC to get more information and were have been told that there are a lot of people requesting to get back Gingerbread. Anyone who’s not satisfied with the Honeycomb update on the HTC Flyer can get back Android 2.3 by sending the tablet to the HTC’s costumer service. Furthermore, the HTC customer service rep advised them to wait Ice Cream Sandwich whle noting that the update should be available within the next few months.

… or you wait for the update Ice Cream Sandwich […] first quarter of this year.

This is the first “confirmation” from HTC that the Flyer will be updated to Android 4.0. We’re not sure how reliable HTC customer service rep knowledge is when it comes to system updates which have not been announced yet, but we’re ghoing to assume that someone working for HTC knows more than most. We’ll bring you more details once they are available. Stay tuned.

If you’re interested in purchasing the HTC Flyer, you can pick up a refurbished unit from buy.com for as little as $199.

  1. Great news, so will the other devices mentioned some months back be updated at the same time, namely the HTC Sensation??
I understand it takes awhile to go through an update making sure everything works, but come on HTC we want our ICS now!!!

  2. ICS on Flyer gives us hope that HTC are going to push on and give us a genuine iPad challenger in the coming months, complete with full on HTC Sense. Techs like Vanilla Android, but most consumers like simplicity and beauty of overlying OS – like iOS and Sense (i think)

  3. Anyone care to try using the GPS on a Flyer WiFi unit running Honeycomb? It won’t keep a lock and HTC denies there is a problem!! GPS lock running on Gingerbread was rock solid.

  4. So, now we are soon in mid july, and still nothing. Also suffering from the GPS-problem. Seems like HTC doesn´t even bother. It sucks. If they brake something that has worked Before, they should fix it!

  5. I am still waiting for update my htc flyer to ice cream sandwich. Please make it quickly, if u wanna keep costumer trust! Htc flyer have high performance, but poor update.. thx.

  6. Hi, does anyone know exactly when htc flyer will be updated to ICS? i’ve been waiting so long..thanks

  7. It looks like HTC are not going to bother with upgrading the OS for the Flyer. This doen’t say much for HTC’s commitment to customer support!
